Very high polarization of the Geminga pulsar gamma radiation

چکیده

It is noted that the weak pulsar theory predicts very high linear polarization of gamma radiation for the Geminga-like pulsars. In the bridge region, the degree of polarization reaches almost 75%, with an approximately constant position angle. Within the pulses, the position angle changes, and the degree of polarization drops considerably. But even the pulse-integrated emission is expected to be highly polarized.

High-energy pulses and phase-resolved spectra by inverse Compton emission in the pulsar striped wind - Application to Geminga

Context. Although discovered 40 years ago, the emission mechanism responsible for the observed pulsar radiation remains unclear. However, the high-energy pulsed emission is usually explained in the framework of either the polar cap or the outer gap model. Here we explore an alternative model based on the striped wind. Aims. The purpose of this work is to study the pulsed component, that is the ...

Se p 19 97 Phase - Resolved Studies of the High - Energy Gamma - Ray Emission from the Crab , Geminga , and Vela Pulsars

Using the first three and a half years of observations from the Energetic Gamma Ray Telescope (EGRET) on board the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO), phase-resolved analyses are performed on the emission from the three brightest highenergy γ-ray pulsars, Crab, Geminga, and Vela. For each pulsar, it is found that there is detectable high-energy γ-ray emission above the galactic diffuse backgr...

Search for TeV Emission from Geminga by VERITAS

The Geminga gamma ray source was first detected by SAS-2 and COS-B, and has been identified as a radio-quiet pulsar associated with a 300,000 year old supernova remnant. Geminga is one of the brightest GeV sources and was also detected by Milagro at energies greater than 20 TeV. During 2007 VERITAS performed observations to search for TeV gamma ray emission from the Geminga pulsar and the regio...

Polarization of pulsar radiation in the two - pole caustic model and in the outer gap model ∗

We present linear polarization characteristics of pulsar radiation as predicted by two models of high-energy radiation from extended regions in the outer magnetosphere: the recently proposed two-pole caustic 1 Two-pole caustic model vs outer gap model The two-pole caustic model differs from the outer gap model in that its emission region extends below the null charge surface toward the polar ca...

TeV gamma rays from Geminga and the origin of the GeV positron excess.

The Geminga pulsar has long been one of the most intriguing MeV-GeV gamma-ray point sources. We examine the implications of the recent Milagro gamma-ray Observatory detection of extended, multi-TeV gamma-ray emission from Geminga, finding that this reveals the existence of an ancient, powerful cosmic-ray accelerator that can plausibly account for the multi-GeV positron excess that has evaded ex...
